The acronym for PHP is Hypertext pre-processor. It’s a server side scripting language mainly used for web development. PHP was created in 1994 by Rasmus Lerdorf. PHP originally stood for personal home page. PHP is free to download and use. PHP can run on various platforms like windows, Linux, UNIX, Mac OS etc. PHP code is usually processed by a PHP interpreter. PHP code can be embedded into HTML or HTML 5markup or it can be used in combination with various web templates systems, web content management systems and web frameworks. PHP is compatible with all the servers used today like Apache, IIS etc. PHP also supports wide range of databases. The best thing in using PHP is that it is extremely simple for a newcomer but offers many advanced features for a professional programmer. PHP code may also be executed with a command line interface and can be used to implement standalone graphical applications. PHP is relative fast as it uses much system resource. But the disadvantage of PHP is as it is open source so all the people can see the source code.
